Pocatello, ID Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Pocatello City Code § 10.04.070 restricts the use of coasters, roller skates, skateboards and similar devices on city streets. It states that no person upon roller skates or a skateboard, or riding in or by means of any coaster, sled, toy vehicle, or similar device, shall go upon any roadway except while crossing a street in a crosswalk, and when so crossing that person is granted all the rights and is subject to all the duties applicable to pedestrians. The rule sits in chapter 10.04's general traffic provisions alongside § 10.04.060, which subjects animal-drawn vehicles and riders to the same title's vehicle rules, and § 10.04.010, which adopts the definitions of Idaho Code title 49 for the traffic title.

Because roadway use outside a crosswalk is barred outright rather than merely time- or place-limited, skateboarders and roller skaters are effectively confined to sidewalks, parking lots and other non-roadway surfaces, or to the crosswalk itself when crossing. The Pocatello Police Department enforces this section, and because it carries no unique fine, a violation is a misdemeanor under the citywide penalty clause, § 1.04.040.
