Clinton Township, MI Public Conduct: Public Marijuana Use (2026)

02(c), the township's marihuana subsection of its controlled-substances ordinance, lists unlawful acts under subsection (3). Item E bars a person from consuming marihuana in public or smoking marihuana where prohibited by the person who owns, occupies, or manages the property, with a carve-out: for this subsection, a public place does not include an area the township has designated as an authorized area of consumption that is not accessible to persons under 21. The same subsection also separately bans smoking marihuana within the passenger area of a vehicle on a public way (item G) and consuming marihuana while operating a motor vehicle, aircraft, snowmobile, off-road recreational vehicle, or motorboat (item G).

Possessing marihuana accessories or possessing/consuming marihuana on school grounds, school buses, or correctional facility grounds is separately barred under item H. The chapter defines 'marihuana' by cross-reference to Section 3 of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act, covering all parts of the cannabis plant, its resin, and marihuana concentrate and infused products, while excluding mature stalks, fiber, and industrial hemp.
