The section singles out roller skates, coasters and 'similar devices,' language broad enough to reach skateboards, and keeps them off the roadway itself except at a crosswalk. Once a skater or rider steps into that crosswalk to cross, the code treats them exactly like a pedestrian, so they gain the pedestrian right-of-way protections in Chapter 345 but also inherit a pedestrian's duty to yield outside a marked crossing.
