Charleston Chapter 41 prohibits skateboarding on King Street, Market Street, the historic district sidewalks, and Waterfront Park, directing riders to designated skate parks.
Charleston Code Chapter 41 (Vehicles for Hire and Other Vehicles) restricts skateboarding, in-line skating, and similar coasting devices on commercial sidewalks downtown including King Street, Market Street, Meeting Street, and within the Old and Historic District. Skateboarding is also prohibited at Waterfront Park, Marion Square, and on parking-garage ramps. The City operates Ackerman Park Skate Park as the primary legal venue. Bicycle traffic on sidewalks faces parallel restrictions in the central business district. Riders must yield to pedestrians where allowed.
Skateboarding violations bring civil fines up to $100 and equipment may be confiscated; repeat offenses on private property may add trespass charges.
