Monroe County, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Sec. 18-27(n) regulates skating, rollerblading, skateboarding and bicycling at named Monroe County parks. At Key Largo Community Park, subsection (n)(1) bars skating, rollerblading, skateboarding, riding a bicycle or performing any similar activity anywhere except where posted signs designate; the board of county commissioners sets rules by resolution for the park's dedicated skate and bike park, which admits only skateboards, inline skates and freestyle bicycles, and is expressly not intended for mountain or off-road bicycling. Big Pine Key Park carries an identical structure under subsection (n)(2), which additionally names racquetball, handball, roller hockey, the multi-purpose courts and fitness stations as confined to posted areas, again limiting its skate-and-bike-park facility to skateboards, inline skates and freestyle bicycles.

Subsection (n)(3) takes the opposite approach at the Murray E. Nelson Government Center Park and Rowell's Waterfront Park: skating, rollerblading, skateboarding, or any similar activity is banned outright there, with no posted-area exception at all. Riders who want to use either dedicated skate-and-bike-park facility must follow rules established by county commission resolution and posted at the facility itself. A violation of any of these subsections is punishable under the general chapter 18 penalty in Sec. 18-27(q), the same provision that covers other park rules-of-conduct violations.
