Kenton County, KY Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

016 requires every occupant or owner of a residential dwelling unit, agricultural, commercial, institutional, or industrial use to place all solid waste in proper solid waste containers and to keep both the containers and the surrounding area clean, neat, and sanitary at all times. The section specifically ties this maintenance duty to pest control, requiring that waste be stored in a manner that keeps it free from insect and rodent infestation. 017 backs this up with hardware standards: residential containers must hold no less than 20 and no more than 35 gallons (or 80 to 90 gallons for wheeled carts), must be leakproof, waterproof, and fitted with a fly-tight lid, and must stay covered except when waste is being deposited or removed.

Containers heavier than 75 pounds loaded are not allowed, except wheeled carts. Together these sections form the county's operative rodent and vector control standard for waste storage, administered by the Director of the Solid Waste Management Program, currently the Solid Waste Coordinator for the Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management District under an interlocal agreement with Boone and Campbell Counties.
