Kane County, IL Short-Term Rentals: Short-Term Rental Parking Rules (2026)

Section 7-63(G) of the Kane County Code requires that overnight parking for short-term rental guests be confined to an improved hard surface on the rental premises, in compliance with all other state and local parking laws, rather than allowing guests to park on unimproved yard areas or block the road. Section 7-64(B) adds a separate, broader vehicle restriction that applies to every licensed short-term rental: consistent with the Kane County Zoning Ordinance, storage or parking of a truck or commercial vehicle over three-quarter ton is prohibited, and the article separately bars parking of livery vehicles, recreational vehicles, campers, food trucks, portable spas, portable hot tubs, portable saunas and other trailers anywhere on the property.

Together, Sections 7-63(G) and 7-64(B) mean a short-term rental cannot double as informal RV or truck storage for guests even when the hard-surface parking rule is otherwise satisfied. Section 7-64(C) does allow the Director of the Development and Community Services Department to grant a case-by-case exception to either the vehicle ban or the hard-surface rule, upon request from the owner or the renter, so an owner expecting a guest with an RV can seek advance approval rather than assume the restriction is absolute.
