Every Truckee short-term rental must provide on-site parking that matches the plan approved with its registration certificate, and boat trailers and recreational vehicles can never sit on the street or on unpaved ground. In the Downtown Mixed Use zone, an operator without on-site parking must file an alternative plan naming an off-site spot. The approved space count has to appear inside the unit and in every advertisement.

3.Parking. On-site parking shall be provided for each short-term rental, except as provided in an alternative parking plan approved pursuant to section 5.02.030.D.6 of this chapter. No vehicle parked at a short-term rental (including without limitation boat trailers and recreational vehicles) may be parked on the street, in an unpaved area, or in a location or manner that does not comply with the parking plan approved by the Town for the short-term rental.

Violations & Fines

Parking guests on the street, on unpaved ground, or off the approved plan is a chapter violation subject to the same escalating fines as any other short-term rental infraction: up to $1,500 for a first citation, $3,000 for a second within a year, and $5,000 after that, with hosted rentals fined at $500, $1,000, and $1,500. Three citations against one certificate within twelve months revoke it outright for a year, and each day of continued noncompliance is a separate violation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a short-term rental guest park a boat trailer on the street in Truckee?
No. Section 5.02.040(A)(3) specifically bars parking any vehicle, including boat trailers and recreational vehicles, on the street or in an unpaved area at a short-term rental, and requires all parking to follow the plan approved with the property's registration certificate.
What if a rental has no on-site parking?
In the Downtown Mixed Use zone, an operator without on-site spaces must submit an alternative parking plan naming an off-site location under Section 5.02.030(D)(6) before the Town issues a registration certificate.
Does the parking limit apply to hosted rentals too?
Yes, Section 5.02.040(B)(4) applies the identical on-site parking and street-parking ban to hosted rentals, the single-bedroom rentals where the owner lives on-site with the guest.
