Short-term rental permit rules in Anchorage, AK β also called Airbnb permits, vacation rental licenses, or STR registration β list the application steps, fees, and operating requirements for hosting.
Anchorage requires short-term rental operators to register with the Municipality under the 2023 STR ordinance. Registration is separate from business licensing and bed tax remittance. Enforcement is handled by the Treasury Division.
In 2023 the Anchorage Assembly adopted AO 2023-66 establishing a short-term rental registration program. Any dwelling rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days must be registered with the Municipality of Anchorage. Operators provide owner contact information, a local responsible party, proof of insurance, and the property address. Registration is renewed annually. The ordinance applies to both whole-home and room rentals offered through platforms such as Airbnb, Vrbo, and direct bookings. STRs must also hold a State of Alaska business license and collect the 12% Anchorage bed tax (room tax) under AMC 12.20. Registration numbers must be displayed on listings. Failure to register can result in civil penalties. The program is intended to support enforcement of safety, tax, and nuisance rules rather than to cap the number of STRs.
