Sanger does not have an STR-specific registration system, but operators must complete two registrations: a general business license under Chapter 18 and a Transient Occupancy Tax operator registration under Chapter 66, Section 66-133. The TOT registration requires providing contact information, property address, and an estimate of average daily rental rate. A certificate of registration is issued upon approval.
While Sanger has no dedicated short-term rental registry or permit, two existing registration requirements apply to anyone renting property for stays of 30 days or fewer. First, Chapter 18 of the Sanger City Code requires a business license for any commercial activity within city limits, including rental operations. Second, Section 66-133 of the Transient Occupancy Tax article requires every operator of a hotel (broadly defined to include any transient lodging) to register with the tax administrator within 30 days of commencing business. The registration must include the operator's name and address, the name and address of the establishment, the number of rooms, the average daily rate, and any other information the administrator requires. Upon registration, the city issues a certificate of registration that must be displayed or available for inspection (Section 66-134). Failure to register can result in penalties and enforcement under the tax code. There is no online STR registration portal; operators should contact the Sanger Finance Department to complete registration. If the city adopts a future STR ordinance, a separate registration or permit system may be added.
