Cedar Park imposes a 7% Hotel Occupancy Tax on STR stays under 30 days (Article 10.03) and, starting October 1, 2026, will require all STR owners to register with the city and pay a $100 annual fee.
Under Article 10.03 of the Cedar Park Code of Ordinances, every 'hotel' β defined to include short-term rentals, bed-and-breakfasts, trailer houses, lodging houses, and any building where the public obtains sleeping accommodations for under 30 consecutive days β must collect a 7% city Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) on the rental price and remit it to the city. HOT reports are filed quarterly (due by the last day of the first calendar month following each quarter, e.g., Q3 due July 31) and are separate from the State of Texas 6% HOT. On April 23, 2026 the City Council approved an ordinance (effective October 1, 2026) requiring every STR owner to register annually with the city and pay a $100 per-property registration fee, with city staff estimating roughly 200 STRs currently operating.
Failure to collect, report, or remit the 7% HOT is a violation of Article 10.03 subject to penalties and interest under city collection procedures, and the city may pursue delinquent operators. Operating an unregistered STR on or after October 1, 2026 will be a code violation enforceable through the city's standard municipal court process (Class C misdemeanor framework, up to $500 per Texas LGC Β§54.001 for non-health/safety ordinances).
