New Braunfels, TX Sign Regulations: Digital Billboards (2026)

New Braunfels bans off-premise advertising signs, the true billboard category, under Sec. 106-11(5), with only a narrow carve-out for a sign TxDOT must relocate unchanged during a road-widening acquisition. Electronic message signs are likewise banned outright under Sec. 106-11(6) except as expressly permitted in Sec. 106-14. Where permitted, a digital sign replaces (not adds to) a lot's freestanding or monument sign, is capped at one per platted lot, must sit at least 150 feet from residentially zoned or used property, cannot exceed one foot-candle of illumination at the property line, and must hold each static image for at least 3 seconds with no scrolling, animation, or solid white backgrounds between dusk and dawn.
