Flint, MI Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Article XXV-A of the zoning code creates a 'protected area', all property within 600 feet of a freeway right-of-way, where § 50-142.2 bans erecting or maintaining any sign except as § 50-142.3 allows. A business, industry or institutional use that abuts the freeway right-of-way may erect one detached, freeway-oriented point-of-sale sign under § 50-142.3(c): no flashing lights, no moving parts or animation, architectural conformity with the premises, and, even where elevation problems justify extra height for sightline purposes, a hard cap of 75 feet.
