Knoxville, TN Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Knoxville's Table 13-2 sets maximum detached-sign height by road classification in the commercial and industrial districts (C-N, C-G, C-H, C-R, DK, I-MU, I-RD, I-G, I-H): 35 feet within 500 feet of an interstate interchange, 30 feet adjacent to interstate right-of-way, 20 feet on federally designated highways, and 10 feet on all other roads. Sign area follows the same hierarchy under Table 13-3, up to 200 square feet near an interstate versus 100 square feet on ordinary streets. A secondary detached sign within 100 feet of the interstate right-of-way, oriented perpendicular or radial to it, qualifies for these same higher limits.
