McCracken County, KY Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Section 150.039(C) of the zoning code defines an OFF-PREMISE SIGN as one advertising a business, person, activity, goods, products, or services not located where the sign stands, and restricts these signs to the AG, C (Commercial), ML (Light Industry), and MH (Heavy Industry) zoning districts under § 150.039(C). Off-premise signs must be spaced at least 500 feet apart in every permitted zone except Commercial, and may be double-faced (front-and-back or V-shaped) but not stacked top-and-bottom unless a particular zone's table specifically allows it (§ 150.039(C)(1)-(2)).

The § 150.039(D) district table caps AG-zone signs at 400 square feet and 40 feet above average grade, ML and MH signs at 40 feet, and Commercial signs at 60 feet with one sign permitted per 300 feet of road frontage rather than a flat per-parcel limit. No sign, including an off-premise sign facing a highway, may obstruct or be confused with a traffic-control device, sit within a public right-of-way, or reduce visibility at a driveway, access point, or intersection under § 150.039(B)(1)-(3). Any configuration exceeding these size, height, or spacing limits requires a variance from the Board of Adjustment.
