Peoria, AZ Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Peoria's Sign Code sets a dedicated standard for freestanding monument signs built to face a freeway, defined as a freestanding monument sign located on property adjacent to a freeway under § 21-705's Freeway Sign definition and standardized in Table 2, Freestanding Sign Specifications, of § 21-709. A Freeway Sign requires a sign permit and is only available to non-residential zoned properties, not residential uses. Quantity scales with freeway frontage: a property gets one Freeway Sign at 660 linear feet of frontage or more, two signs above 1,320 linear feet, and three signs above 2,640 linear feet.

The maximum height is 60 feet, plus up to 3 additional feet allowed for architectural detail, and the maximum sign area is 250 square feet. The sign's base must measure at least 35 percent of the sign's full width, and illumination can be internal, backlit, or external. Spacing rules keep Freeway Signs from clustering: each sign needs 200 feet of separation from any other Freeway Sign, 50 feet from non-freeway lot lines, and 200 feet from any residentially zoned property. Because these are freestanding monument signs, they also have to meet the general freestanding-sign standards in § 21-708, including a landscaped base equal to at least four square feet for every square foot of sign area and a masonry base for any sign taller than three feet.
