Peoria, AZ Sign Regulations: Holiday Displays (2026)

Peoria's Sign Code authorizes Holiday and Seasonal Decorations as one of the signs allowed citywide with no permit, defined at § 21-707(C) as temporary, non-commercial decorations or displays associated with the celebration of a particular civic, patriotic, or religious holiday or season. The rule sits inside § 21-707, Authorized Signs, All Zoning Districts, No Permit Required, alongside government signs, grave markers, interior signs, and vending machine signage, meaning holiday lights and yard displays do not need a Sign Permit application through the Department the way a monument or wall sign would.

The tradeoff for skipping the permit process is a firm duration cap: decorations shall be displayed for a maximum of 60 days total during the relevant season. The ordinance also requires upkeep, decorations must be maintained in good condition, not torn, soiled, or faded, and a safety condition, they shall not be displayed in such a manner as to constitute a hazard to pedestrian or vehicular traffic. Because the exemption is limited to non-commercial holiday and seasonal displays, a business using lights or inflatables to advertise a sale or promotion outside a recognized holiday season falls instead under the code's separate temporary-sign provisions in § 21-710, which require a permit above certain sizes and durations.
