Allentown treats yard and garage sale signs as a distinct category of temporary sign under Chapter 505. Section 505-1 defines a yard or garage sale sign as any temporary sign announcing a public sale of items at a private residence, covering yard sales, garage sales and porch sales, and names the resident at the listed address as the sign's sponsor. The general temporary-sign rules in Section 505-2 still apply: no nails, tacks, staples or metal fasteners and no adhesive backing on a utility pole or streetlight standard, a 30-inch height and 24-inch width cap, and no posting on trees, shrubs, traffic control devices or City property such as the Hamilton Mall.

H adds a rule specific to this category: a yard or garage sale sign that omits the sale's address and date may not be posted at all. C sets the timing: these signs cannot be affixed to a pole or standard earlier than three days before the sale and must come down within 24 hours after the sale closes, a much shorter window than the 45-day/7-day rule for political signs or the 30-day/7-day rule for special-event signs.
