Caddo Parish, LA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 9.6 of the Caddo Parish Unified Development Code covers signs that do not need a permit, and subsection C.2 addresses the additional temporary sign homeowners are allowed when they run a garage or yard sale. The sign is only available in connection with a residential use, and it must be placed on the site of the sale itself, not at a nearby intersection or on a neighbor's lawn. Timing is spelled out precisely: the sign may go up as early as 48 hours before the sale starts, and it has to come down within 24 hours after the sale ends, so a weekend sale cannot leave a sign standing for a week afterward.

The sign can be built as either a freestanding sign or a wall sign, and either type is limited to six square feet in area. A freestanding version is further limited to five feet in height and has to sit within five feet of a lot line; a wall version may be mounted on a fence rather than the house itself. No garage sale sign of either type may be illuminated. The Code allows only one such additional temporary sign per lot, so a household cannot post several signs advertising the same sale across their own yard, though a separate real estate activity sign or yard sign, if otherwise permitted, is governed by its own subsection rather than this one.

Because this sign type sits on the no-permit list, no sign permit application or fee is required, but the Zoning Administrator can still order removal of a sign that violates the size, timing, height, or illumination limits under UDC Article 19.
