DuPage County, IL Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

The county zoning ordinance treats a garage-sale sign as any other temporary sign: it doesn't get its own exempt category the way for-sale, political, or seasonal-sales signs do. Two general rules in Section 37-1103 control it: no sign or sign structure may be attached to a tree, telephone pole, or other utility pole, and no sign may be erected in a public right-of-way except as the road agency responsible for that right-of-way allows. That rules out the classic stapled-to-the-stop-sign-post garage sale sign. Garage sales themselves are separately capped at four per year and no more than two consecutive weekends per Section 37-700.8.
