Katy prohibits posting garage sale signs and other bandit signs in public rights-of-way, on utility poles, traffic signs, or attached to public infrastructure.
Under Article 3.06 of the Katy Code, garage sale and bandit signs may not be placed in any public street, sidewalk, or alley right-of-way, or attached to telephone poles, power poles, stop signs, or other public structures. The sign administrator, public works employees, and police are authorized to seize and impound any unlawful sign, holding it in storage for up to thirty days before disposal. Enforcement applies citywide, including the Katy Mills Mall area.
Posting prohibited signs may result in confiscation, citation, and a fine. Repeat offenders face escalating penalties under the city's general penalty provisions.
