Full Breakdown
Lansing's Codified Ordinances Section 606.03 lets residents post yard sale, rummage sale, auction, or garage sale signs on public right-of-way or public property, but only starting two days before the sale and only if removed within one day after it ends: the sign can never sit out longer than four consecutive days. Every sign must legibly show the sponsor's name or contact information, and if unsigned, whoever is identified on the sign is presumed responsible for violations. This does not authorize signs otherwise prohibited by other city rules.
Violations & Fines
Violating the placement or removal timing, or omitting sponsor contact info, is a civil infraction punishable by a fine of up to $500.
