Maple Grove, MN Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Maple Grove's Code of Ordinances Chapter 24, Section 24-6, addresses placement of signs on right-of-way or public land. As a general rule, no sign other than a governmental sign may be placed on public land. However, the ordinance specifically allows signs for a rummage sale to be posted no more than 120 hours in any eight-day period within a public right-of-way or easement (real-estate sale signs are separately allowed only between 6:00 p.m. Friday and 6:00 a.m. Monday). The ordinance further provides that no non-governmental sign may be placed in a public right-of-way abutting private property unless permission is first obtained from the owner, occupant, or other person controlling the abutting property. Any sign other than a governmental sign that remains in the right-of-way beyond 120 hours in an eight-day period, or that is placed in violation of these rules, may be summarily removed by the city and, at its discretion, destroyed. To stay compliant, keep garage-sale signs on your own property where possible, limit right-of-way posting to the allowed 120-hour window tied to the sale, get abutting-owner permission, and remove all signs promptly after the sale ends.
