Maple Grove, MN Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Maple Grove's Sec. 20-143 is a location-based rule. It applies within 500 feet of any residentially zoned property, with an exclusion for property zoned R-A, which does not trigger the restriction. The test is how the nearby land is zoned, so a Maple Grove job site is covered whenever residentially zoned property other than R-A lies within 500 feet of the work.

Inside that distance, the section sets the allowed hours. On weekdays, construction activity may take place between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. On public holidays, Saturdays and Sundays, the window opens later, at 8:00 a.m., and closes at the same 9:00 p.m. The evening cutoff in Maple Grove never changes. Only the morning start shifts, so a crew that may begin at 7:00 a.m. on a Friday must wait until 8:00 a.m. the next morning. Public holidays are grouped with Saturdays and Sundays in Sec. 20-143, so they take the 8:00 a.m. start as well.

The covered activity is defined broadly. Sec. 20-143 reaches construction activities involving the use of manual tools, movement of equipment, or power equipment, and it describes power equipment as including, but not limited to, any kind of electric, diesel, or gas-powered machine. Because manual tools are listed, hand work counts along with machinery under the Maple Grove rule. Because movement of equipment is listed, staging or repositioning noisy machinery before 7:00 a.m. on a weekday violates the section even if no building work has started.

Responsibility is broad too. The Maple Grove text says no person shall engage in, permit, or allow the activity outside the stated hours. That wording reaches the person doing the work and also a person who permits or allows it on a site within 500 feet of residential zoning.
