Pasco requires a free yard sale permit and limits yard sale signs to a maximum of 4 signs per sale, each no larger than 2 square feet, with the sale address in 2-inch-minimum lettering. Signs may not go up more than 24 hours before the sale and must be removed within 24 hours of permit expiration, and may not be placed in the right-of-way or on utility poles or subdivision fences.
Yard (garage) sales in Pasco require a permit, which is free and is obtained from the City Hall Permit Center; signs are allowed only for permitted yard sales in conformance with PMC 17.15.020. Per the city's published yard sale sign rules, a maximum of four yard sale signs is allowed per permitted sale, and each sign may not exceed two square feet in area. All yard sale signs must have the address of the sale clearly marked in legible lettering at least two inches in size. Signs may not be placed more than 24 hours before a permitted sale and must be removed within 24 hours of permit expiration. No yard sale sign may be placed on the right-of-way of any roadway, alley, sidewalk, or other public auto or pedestrian traffic area in a way that interferes with traffic, and no sign may be placed, affixed, stapled, glued, or taped to any utility pole, subdivision fence, or any public property. The sale itself is limited to two yard sales per calendar year per household, each no more than two consecutive calendar days, on residential property occupied by the permit applicant; the permit application must be made at least 24 hours in advance by a household member 18 or older. Confirm current sign and permit requirements with the Community Development Department before posting.
Posting more than four signs, oversized signs, signs without the required address lettering, signs placed too early or left up after the sale, or signs on rights-of-way, utility poles, subdivision fences, or public property can result in removal and code-enforcement action. Holding a yard sale without a permit, or exceeding two sales per year or two consecutive days per sale, is a separate violation.
