Piscataway, NJ Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 4-4 permits occasional garage, yard, patio or rummage sales from a residence, limited under § 4-4.b to two sales per premises per year and, under § 4-4.c, to no more than two consecutive days between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Subsection 4-4.d governs advertising signs specifically: a sale may be advertised by not more than two signs posted within the Township, neither exceeding two feet by three feet in area, and any sign erected under the subsection must be removed immediately at the end of the second day of the sale.

The same subsection bars placing a sign so that it creates a traffic hazard or an impediment to safety. Subsection 4-4.e separately allows advertising in a newspaper classified section, on local cable television, or through any other method not inconsistent with the section, as long as the ad states the sale's hour and day limits; using such an ad is treated as prima facie evidence that a covered sale is underway. Subsection 4-4.f puts the burden on the property owner, occupant or sale operator to prevent traffic, parking and trespassing problems caused by the sale itself, separate from the sign rules. No person may sell consigned or resale merchandise from a commercial business at one of these residential sales under § 4-4.a.
