Rockdale County, GA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 230-17 exempts certain sign types from Rockdale County's sign permit requirement, and weekend signs (WES) are one of them: garage sale, yard sale and similar temporary signs are exempt from permitting so long as they follow the dimensional rules in § 230-17(d)(5). the following Monday; leaving one up outside that window is not a permitting problem, it is a litter violation. Each sign is capped at four square feet per side and four feet in height, and a lot may host no more than two WES at a time.

The signs must stand on their own independent frame or stake; § 230-17(d)(5)d bars nailing, tying or otherwise attaching a WES to a tree, utility pole, another sign, or any other structure, a rule aimed at the same yard-sale posters that tend to end up wired to street signs and telephone poles. Even though no permit is required, § 230-17(a) makes clear that WES still have to meet all other applicable dimensional and maintenance requirements of the sign chapter and remain subject to enforcement and penalties under section 230-24.

The sign must also sit on private property with the owner's consent and outside the public right-of-way, per § 230-17(c), the same placement rule that applies to every exempt freestanding sign in the chapter.
