Rockdale County, GA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sec. 222-11(a) of the Unified Development Ordinance bans parking commercial vehicles in residential zoning districts, but it carves out recreational equipment by name: trailers, mobile homes, motorized homes, boats, boat trailers and utility trailers are exempt from that specific paragraph. The code defines a trailer broadly as any vehicle, with or without motive power, designed for carrying persons or property and built to be drawn by a motor vehicle so that none of its weight rests on the towing vehicle, a definition wide enough to cover travel trailers, pop-up campers, and boat trailers alike.

The exemption from the commercial-vehicle ban does not mean an RV or boat can sit anywhere on the lot. Sec. 222-11(b) applies to all vehicles in a residential district, RVs and boats included, and requires that parking be within a garage, driveway, or carport, or within a side or rear yard, with the only exception being moving vans actively loading or unloading. That means a boat, travel trailer or motorhome parked directly on grass in a front yard, or blocking a sidewalk or right-of-way, is out of compliance even though it is exempt from the commercial-vehicle prohibition itself.

Enforcement runs through the Department of Planning and Development's code enforcement officers or a Rockdale County Sheriff's deputy under the same process used for commercial vehicles: a written warning giving five days to correct the placement, followed by a citation if the vehicle is not moved, with the county authorized to remove a vehicle that stays in violation and each day of continued violation counted as a separate offense.
