Spalding County, GA Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Spalding County's sign ordinance (Appendix E) defines a garage sale sign in Sec. 222 as a temporary sign advertising the sale of personal property that isn't tied to an established commercial venture, and Article 8 exempts it from the permit that most other signs need. That exemption comes with conditions: under Article 8(I), a garage sale sign must show a street address and the sale dates, cannot go up more than two days before the sale starts, and must come down within one day after the sale ends.

The ordinance doesn't leave that deadline as a suggestion, failing to remove the sign on time is expressly written into the code as a litter violation enforceable under the Spalding County Code, not merely a sign-ordinance technicality. Because garage sale signs are permit-exempt, they aren't tracked or inspected the way permitted commercial signs are under the zoning administrator's Sec. 1101 enforcement authority; instead, code enforcement responds on a complaint or litter-patrol basis. The two-day posting window and one-day removal window apply regardless of how many days the sale itself runs, and the county's sign table does not list garage sale signs among the categories subject to the ordinance's general size and area limits, since Article 8 removes them from the permitting and area-computation scheme entirely as long as the timing rule is followed.
