Spalding County, GA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Spalding County's sign ordinance defines a campaign sign in Sec. 208 as a temporary sign expressing support for a candidate for public office or a position on a public figure or issue, carrying no commercial message, and Article 8(H) lists campaign signs among the signs that don't need a sign permit. That permit exemption comes with Sec. 516's own limits: campaign signs are allowed in every zoning district in the county, but only for six weeks before what the ordinance calls an authorized campaign date, and they must come down within one week after the campaign ends.

Size and placement are capped too: no campaign sign may exceed six square feet in sign area, and Sec. 516 requires every campaign sign to sit off the public right-of-way, which lines up with Article 6(O)'s blanket rule that no sign of any kind may be erected on a street or road right-of-way. On top of the size cap, Sec. 516 limits a lot to two campaign signs at a time, regardless of how many races or candidates the owner wants to support. Because campaign signs are exempt from permitting, the zoning administrator doesn't inspect or track them the way permitted signs are tracked, but the six-week posting window, six-square-foot cap, right-of-way ban and two-sign-per-lot limit are still enforceable under the ordinance's general violation procedure.
