Pharr, TX Sign Regulations: Holiday Displays (2026)

City of Pharr regulates holiday lighting on public property under Sec. 22-170 of the Code of Ordinances. Any electrical decoration installed on public land, streets, alleys, or sidewalks accessible to the public must be maintained by a registered electrical contractor, and a permit is required for each connection made to the permanent wiring, stating the festoon length and wattage. The chief electrical inspector limits every permit to a specific stated period. Once that period ends, or earlier, if the inspector decides removal is warranted for any valid reason, the person who obtained the permit must take the decorations down. The code does not set a separate duration cap for lights strung on private residential property.
