Davenport, IA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Under Davenport's zoning sign code (Section 17.12.050(C)(8)), signs expressing noncommercial ideas, including those recommending a candidate for public office or advocating a public issue, are permitted in all districts with no cap on the number of signs. Freestanding and wall- or fence-mounted noncommercial signs are limited to 32 square feet, freestanding signs to six feet in height, set back five feet from any lot line. Window versions follow the 30% window-coverage rule. The signs cannot be illuminated and need the property owner's permission. This content-neutral treatment tracks Reed v. Town of Gilbert; signs in the right-of-way or on utility poles are prohibited and may be removed by the city.
