Lewisville, TX Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Political sign display on private property in Lewisville is protected by Texas state law. Texas Election Code Section 259.002 prohibits municipalities from regulating political signs on private property based on the content or viewpoint of the sign. The city may impose reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions that apply equally to all signs, but it cannot single out political signs for different treatment. On public rights-of-way, the city may regulate sign placement for traffic safety and visual clearance. Texas Property Code Section 202.009 limits HOA authority over political signs. An HOA may not prohibit a property owner from displaying a political sign on their property during the period beginning 90 days before an election and ending 10 days after the election. HOAs may adopt reasonable rules regarding sign size (but cannot require smaller than 4 feet by 6 feet), number, and placement as long as the rules do not effectively prohibit political expression. Political signs cannot be placed in city parks, on utility poles, on traffic signs, or in median islands. Signs placed in the public right-of-way may be removed by the city.
