Little Elm, TX Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Political signs in Little Elm are regulated under Chapter 86 of the Code of Ordinances. A political sign is defined as a sign relating to the election of a person to public office, relating to a political party, relating to a matter to be voted on at an election called by a public body, or containing primarily a political message. Political signs may be erected on private premises without a town permit. Texas Election Code Chapter 259 limits municipal authority over political signs on residential property, prohibiting local regulations that restrict political sign display based on content, limit signs to fewer than 90 days before an election, or require removal sooner than 10 days after the election. Signs must not be placed in public rights-of-way, on utility poles, traffic signs, or town property. Signs must not obstruct visibility at intersections or create traffic safety hazards. HOAs may regulate political signs on residential property but Texas Property Code 202.009 limits HOA restrictions, generally allowing at least one sign per candidate or ballot measure not exceeding certain size limits. Little Elm does not charge a permit fee for political signs on private property.
