Los Banos, CA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

2805(l) treats political signs, defined broadly to cover any sign associated with a candidate for elected office, a political party, a ballot measure, or that otherwise makes a political statement, as exempt from the City's sign review permit requirement, but caps size at 32 square feet per candidate or issue per site. Five conditions attach to the exemption. First, a sign cannot be erected before the closing date of candidate filing and must come down within 14 days after the election, except that a candidate advancing past a primary may keep signs up until 14 days after the following general election.

Second, no political or campaign sign may be attached to a tree, fence post, or utility pole, except on private property with the property owner's permission to attach it to a tree or fence post there. Third, no political or campaign sign may be erected on public property or within the public right-of-way at all. Fourth, a sign on private property cannot be placed so as to create a hazard, whether by obstructing an exit or building access or by creating a visual distraction through color, glare, or a resemblance to a traffic control device.

Fifth, if a sign is not removed within its required window, the City will remove it and bill the cost and expense to the candidate. 2826, apply equally to noncompliant political signs.
