Tangipahoa Parish, LA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Sec. 4-73(a) makes it unlawful for anyone to erect or maintain a sign, including electioneering advertisement, on a parish highway, right-of-way, servitude, street, roadway, emergency lane, median, neutral ground, shoulder or curb and sidewalk. Sec. 4-73(b) gives the justices of peace, constables and the 7th Ward Marshal's Office authority to remove violating signs after notice. For political candidates specifically, the parish sends a certified letter to every qualified candidate in an upcoming election explaining the rule; once a violating sign is spotted the parish removes it as soon as possible and then sends the candidate a second letter.

Other benefactors get 30 days from a certified notice to remove their own sign before parish crews take it down. 00 per-sign removal charge. Away from the right-of-way, Sec. 4-78(5)(d) exempts political signs placed on residentially zoned property from the division's permit requirements, treating them the same as other temporary signs such as garage-sale notices and real estate signs, which must come down once their purpose (in this case, the election) is complete. Sec. 4-73(c) preserves the parish's own right to post official traffic, street-name and public-agency signage, and Sec. 4-73(e) lets the council grant written permission for placements that would otherwise violate the section.
