Youngstown, OH Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Youngstown Codified Ordinances § 541.10(a) defines a 'political yard sign' as any sign, poster, board, or placard advertising a candidate or a public political issue that is staked, guy-wired, or otherwise installed. Section 541.10(b) caps residential political signs on residential property at two feet by three feet. Section 541.10(c) limits display duration: no sign may be posted, other than billboards, more than thirty days before the election, and it must be removed on or before the tenth day following the election; this timing rule traces to Ordinance 94-225, passed February 26, 1997.

Section 541.10(d) bars placing any political sign on a City right-of-way, expressway right-of-way, or City-owned property, and on private property at an intersection caps height at three feet while requiring the sign not create a sight restriction for pedestrians or vehicles. Section 541.10(e) assigns responsibility for violations to the political candidate, the candidate's campaign chairman, or the local sponsor shown responsible for placing the sign. Section 541.10(f), added by Ordinance 00-119 passed March 29, 2000, makes a violation a minor misdemeanor, treats each day of continuing violation as a separate offense, requires the violator to bear the removal cost, and authorizes City sign inspectors to issue notices of violation before a minor misdemeanor charge follows.
