Bergenfield, NJ Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Borough Code § 186-48H(2)(c) permits one window sign per premises in Business and Industrial Zones, allowing it to be painted directly on the window, and caps its size at the same dimensions set for wall signs elsewhere in the section. The subsection then adds a coverage offset: if a business also uses temporary window signage, such as sale banners taped to the glass, the permanent window sign's allowed area shrinks accordingly, because the ordinance requires that the combined total of the window sign and any temporary signage never exceed 25% of any window pane area.

A separate supplemental provision at § 186-48H(3)(b) governs purely temporary window signs advertising sales or promotions in Business and Industrial Zones: those signs are also capped at 25% of each window pane's area, and, unlike the permanent window sign, they can only stay mounted on a window or door surface for up to 10 days before they must come down. Windows in Business and Industrial Zones are separately required to function as display windows showing merchandise or service information, and display windows cannot be used to store or warehouse excess stock, reinforcing that the signage rule sits inside a broader storefront-appearance scheme the Construction Code Official enforces.
