550. Subsection (g), Window Signs, covers permanent window signs painted or otherwise adhered directly onto the interior or exterior of a window, and it imposes two hard limits. First, a height restriction: window signs cannot be mounted or placed on windows higher than the second story of a building, keeping this sign type out of upper-floor windows on taller commercial buildings. Second, a coverage limit: a window sign may not occupy more than 20 percent of the total window area it is applied to, calculated against that specific window's full glass area rather than the building's overall permittable sign area.

These sit alongside the chapter's other permanent-sign standards adopted in the same ordinance, such as the blade sign rule capping projecting signs at one per building or tenant space and three square feet per face, and the marquee sign rule limiting changeable copy to 75 percent of the marquee's area. Because window signs are treated separately from the basic permittable area (BPA) calculation used for wall and freestanding signs, a business can generally use window signage in addition to its other permitted signage, so long as it stays under the 20 percent per-window cap and the second-story height ceiling.
