Tangipahoa Parish, LA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Sec. 4-112 sets the size and spacing rules for signs in commercially zoned, unzoned and rural districts of the unincorporated parish. Subsection (1)'s general requirements limit a business to two signs, then set the dimensions for each sign type: a wall sign cannot exceed 20 percent of the wall area or 200 square feet and cannot extend above the roofline; a projecting sign cannot exceed one square foot per linear foot or 200 square feet total and must sit no more than five feet above the parapet; a freestanding sign is limited to one per street front, cannot exceed one square foot per linear foot or 200 square feet total, cannot rise above 35 feet, and must meet the setback requirements of Sec.

4-110. The same subsection closes with the window sign standard: any window sign cannot exceed 20 percent of the total window area. Because a permanent window sign is defined in Sec. 4-110 as a sign placed on or attached to the exterior side of a window, this 20 percent cap applies to that class of on-premises signage specifically, distinct from the wall, projecting and freestanding categories that carry their own separate square-footage caps in the same subsection. Businesses that share a parcel under a group development get additional sign allowances under Sec. 4-112(2), but the 20 percent window-coverage cap applies parcel-wide regardless of those group provisions.
