Ridgefield, CT Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

E of the Zoning Regulations, governing signs permitted in non-residential districts, treats window signs as their own category apart from wall signs, projecting signs, and freestanding signs. Item 7 covers a permanent window sign on a store window for a permitted conforming use: it requires that a permanent window sign permit be obtained through the Zoning Enforcement Officer before the sign goes up, and the Regulations size it by the window surface it covers, unlike the square-footage caps used for wall and freestanding signs elsewhere in the same section.

Item 10 covers a temporary window sign for a permitted conforming use: no Zoning Permit is required for it at all, but the Regulations cap its display period at forty-five days, after which it must come down or be replaced by a new permitted use's temporary posting. F, which bar any sign, other than official traffic or highway signs, from being erected within a street or highway right-of-way, and bar any sign from projecting over a neighboring property line without that owner's written permission. A shop with both a permanent product display and a rotating temporary promotion in its window needs to track the two rules separately: the permanent posting needs the upfront permit, while the temporary one is permit-free but time-limited.
