Galt issues residential rooftop solar permits under AB 2188 expedited review. Standard systems must be approved within 3 business days, and homeowners benefit from over-the-counter online submittal through SolarAPP+ or city intake.
AB 2188 (2014) and subsequent amendments require every California city to adopt an expedited, non-discretionary permit process for residential rooftop solar energy systems up to 10 kilowatts. Galt accepts applications for standard systems online and targets a 3 business day turnaround for complete submittals that include structural and electrical details on the state checklist. The city may participate in or accept SolarAPP+, the federal NREL automated plan check tool, which can issue same-day permits for code-compliant systems. Required documentation typically includes a site plan, electrical one-line diagram, attachment detail, manufacturer spec sheets, and the CSLB license of the installing contractor. Inspections cover roof attachment, conduit routing, rapid shutdown per California Electrical Code 690.12, labeling, and interconnection to the service panel. Title 24 also requires most new single-family construction to include solar panels as part of the 2019 and 2022 Building Energy Efficiency Standards. Battery storage systems such as Powerwall are permitted alongside solar and are subject to CRC Section R328 or CBC equivalent.
Installing solar without a permit or final inspection may block PG&E interconnection and trigger double permit fees. Contractors performing work without a C-46 or C-10 license violate BPC 7028.
