24(2). 42, elevations showing the system's height and configuration relative to property lines and existing structures, a standard foundation design with soil-condition specifications, manufacturer and model information for the equipment, a description of emergency and normal shutdown procedures, an electrical line drawing sufficient to confirm the installation meets applicable electrical codes, evidence that the local electric utility has been notified of the interconnection unless the system will not connect to the grid, and evidence of Federal Aviation Administration compliance. Subsections (a) through (f) add siting standards: large systems must meet the height limits and minimum yards that apply to principal structures in the underlying zoning district, must use a non-reflective, rust-resistant finish, must run electrical connections underground or inside a building, cannot be lit except where the FAA requires it, and must keep all access doors and equipment lockable.

Large solar energy systems are also conditional uses under the applicable district regulations, so the building permit sits on top of, not instead of, that separate zoning approval from the Plan Commission and Common Council.
