06(23) of Wausau's zoning code addresses parking on residential lots directly, stating that accessory off-street parking on land in residential districts, and on any lot associated with a residential use, is meant solely for passenger vehicles unless one of the listed exceptions applies. The first exception covers work trucks: a household may keep one commercial vehicle parked outdoors, but that vehicle must belong to, or be regularly used by, a resident of the dwelling, its manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating cannot exceed 10,000 pounds, and it cannot be 21 feet long or longer.

A pickup with a business logo or a work van that fits those numbers is allowed; a second work truck at the same address is not. The second half of the rule is a blanket ban on heavier equipment: no one may park a motor truck, truck trailer, trailer, semitrailer, or any vehicle or combination weighing more than 10,000 pounds outdoors on residential property. The ordinance carves out one exception to that heavier-vehicle ban for recreational vehicles and motor homes, which remain allowed if they sit in a driveway or another legal off-street parking space rather than on grass or gravel.

The rule applies across every residential zoning district in the city, from the SR-2 single-family district to the higher-density MRH-50 district, and it is separate from, and in addition to, the general prohibition on parking heavy equipment such as bulldozers, semi-trailers, or landscaping rigs outdoors on residential property found elsewhere in the same section.
