Wausau, WI Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

: vehicles may be parked only on the even-numbered side of a street on even-numbered calendar days, and only on the odd-numbered side on odd-numbered days, unless a street is otherwise posted or exempted. A street split by a boulevard or median counts as one street for this purpose, and a circle or court with all-odd or all-even addresses is not automatically exempt. Beyond the citywide swing rule, subsections (b) through (d) name specific no-overnight-parking zones. in the area bounded by McIndoe, First, Forest and Sixth Streets downtown, with two narrow carve-outs on McClellan Street.

Overnight parking is also barred year-round on stretches of South 6th and South 7th Avenues between Stewart and Garfield Avenues, and seasonally, from November 1 through April 30, on further stretches of those same avenues. Subsection (e) exempts blocks where one side already bans parking at all times while the other permits it, and areas already under a posted snow-emergency parking ban. The rule was most recently amended by an ordinance adopted November 11, 2025, and traces back through amendments in 2019, 2015, 2013 and 2008 to a 1974 original.
