Fayette County, GA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Fayette County Code § 8-62(e), part of the Canvassers and Solicitors article (Ch. 8, Art. III), lists five things a canvasser, solicitor, peddler or door-to-door salesperson may not do in the unincorporated county. First, a solicitor cannot call at a residence, office or business that clearly displays a sign reading 'No solicitors or peddlers invited,' 'No solicitation,' or similar language: posting that sign is a resident's opt-out, and any subsequent knock is a violation. , leaving an eleven-hour weekday and Saturday calling window. The same subsection also bars entering a dwelling without the owner's consent or remaining after being told to leave, requires the solicitor to register and carry a permit issued under § 8-57 (obtained at the code enforcement office, valid through December 31 and renewed annually per § 8-58), and prohibits false statements on the registration form.

Registration requires a state sales tax number, a background check for moral-turpitude convictions under § 8-59, and results in a permit the solicitor must display on request to any person solicited, code enforcement personnel or sheriff's deputies. Nonprofit and charitable canvassers who solicit through their own unpaid membership, along with government employees on official business and local farmers selling their own produce, are exempt from the registration and hours rules under §§ 8-60 and 8-63.
