The letters shall be not less than one (1) inch in height.(c)No person shall go upon any residential or business premises and ring the doorbell or knock upon the door...if a card as described in paragraph (a) is exhibited...unless the visit is the result of a request made by the occupant. Sec. 20-40: No person shall go upon any residential premises and ring the doorbell...prior to 9:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. of any day, Monday through Saturday, or at any time on a Sunday, New Year's Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.

Sec. 20-36, 'Going uninvited on premises of private residence,' lets an occupant exhibit a conspicuous, weatherproof card reading 'NO SOLICITORS' in letters at least one inch tall near the main entrance. Every itinerant vendor, merchant or peddler must examine the entrance for that card before approaching, and if it's posted, must immediately depart without disturbing the occupant, unless the visit was requested. Subsection (c) separately bars ringing a doorbell, knocking, or otherwise creating a sound meant to attract the occupant's attention for soliciting purposes wherever that card is displayed.
Only the occupant may remove or deface the card. This same card-and-departure rule is duplicated verbatim at Sec. 13-249 in the peddler permitting article. Sec. , Monday through Saturday, and never at all on a Sunday, New Year's Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day. Both sections exempt visits made at the occupant's own request.
