Grand Prairie, TX Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 25-82 of the Grand Prairie Code of Ordinances lists the specific acts that make stopping, standing or parking a vehicle a civil offense in the city, in addition to any violation of Chapter 25 or state law generally. Subsection (h) bars parking on a sidewalk, right-of-way or crosswalk outright. Subsection (i) prohibits parking, attended or unattended, on the main-traveled part of a street in a way that leaves less than 14 feet of width open for the free movement of other vehicles. Subsection (k) targets alley parking that blocks a driveway entrance to any abutting property, distinct from blocking a driveway directly from the street.

Subsection (m) bans parking on a public street or highway while facing the opposite direction of travel, the classic wrong-way parking violation, and subsection (n) requires wheels to stay within 18 inches of the curb or edge. Other subsections in the same section separately bar parking across a marked parking-space limit line, parking in a driveway of a city-owned lot, stopping in a safety zone, fire lane or within 15 feet of a hydrant, parking in a tow-away zone, double parking, and overstaying posted time limits.

The section was adopted under Ord. No. 9905-2015, § 1, on September 1, 2015, as part of the city's shift to administrative rather than purely criminal parking enforcement. Under section 25-74, every one of these acts is designated a civil offense, and under section 25-75 a police officer, parking enforcement officer or other authorized city employee may issue the citation and, if no one is present, affix it to the vehicle.
