A posted no-soliciting sign is legally binding in Lee's Summit. Under Code Sec. 20-4, a peddler, solicitor, or canvasser may not enter property posted against them, and soliciting is limited to 9 a.m.-8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. weekends.
Chapter 20 gives residents a firm way to stop unwanted knocks. Section 20-4 prohibits a peddler, solicitor, or canvasser from entering property where they have reason to believe residents are unwilling to receive them, whether shown by a posted sign or otherwise, and requires them to leave when asked and never make an uninvited entry into a home. Section 20-5 caps hours: no peddling, soliciting, or canvassing except 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. These no-knock protections bind even exempt canvassers. The Police Department provides free no-soliciting stickers to residents at police headquarters.
Ignoring a posted no-soliciting sign, refusing to leave when asked, or soliciting outside permitted hours violates Chapter 20. Police can cite the violator, and the Chief of Police may revoke any peddler's or solicitor's identification card.
