Jefferson Parish, LA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 22-28 requires anyone conducting house-to-house canvassing, or any salesman or saleslady peddling or soliciting door to door, to first obtain a permit from the sales tax division of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Section 22-29 sets the permit fee at two dollars for each partnership, company, corporation, or sole proprietorship applying. , unless the visit was arranged by a prior appointment with the resident. Section 22-30 gives that overnight restriction real teeth: a permit holder caught soliciting, peddling, or canvassing door to door during the restricted hours has the permit revoked on the spot, and that same solicitor, salesman, saleslady, or canvasser is permanently barred from ever obtaining another permit under this article.

The rules sit in Chapter 22's Article II, Division 1, titled Door-to-Door Salesmen, and apply parishwide in the unincorporated areas, including Metairie and Terrytown, where the Sheriff's Office, not a city hall, issues and polices the permits. Article II does not set its own fine for canvassing without ever getting a permit in the first place, so that gap falls back on the parish's general penalty in Section 1-10, up to a $1,000 fine or six months in jail.
